The roots of Aavepyörä go back to 1994 and the legendary Imukone-crew, from whom Heikki is now the only member left. Along the years, people came and went, Aavepyörä was born, more people came and went, and now, in 2008 it's only me, Taika-Kim writing the music anymore. Summamutikka is my old project from the times when I wanted to keep the goa sound separate from Aavepyörä releases. Jani made a comeback on Bizarroworld with some proper space age oldschool trance, and there's rumours of more material incoming...
I'm of course speaking from only my behalf, but I'll say that my sound & distribution philosophy owes a lot to oldschool goa, Finnish old music & folklore in general, 80s SID-sounds, 90s tracker scene and the state of the world in the year 2000 and eight...
File formats
We prefer OGG Vorbis to MP3 since it's patent free, open source and sounds superior to mp3 at low to mid bitrates. Both are anyhow served. Some releases are also available as FLAC, the free lossless format.
Goddess Guerrilla is available on Jamendo in FLAC, but not on our site at the moment.
Winamp plays the OGG format fine, and Foobar2000 is another popular choice. If you have Linux, using XMMS is my best bet. Mac users can get iTunes to play OGG with a plugin, or install another player such as Cog or Play.
Getting the albums
All albums are sold out. If you ask nice enough, I might sell some CDRs though. These days we prefer to keep the music in immaterial form. Copying the tunes won't tax the environment, and when you dispose of it, there's zero waste. Very nice.
The quality of the encoded files is indistinguishable from the original files anyhow, so burning your own CDs should be just fine.
The 'hoodio
People ask a lot about my equipment and stuff.Right now I have a Athlon 64X2 4200+, Sennheiser HD650 headphones and some cheapo HIFI speakers for monitoring. One day I will hopefully be able to afford real monitors! Most of my old trax were made on Beyerdynamic DT990pros.
I am now moving to EnergyXT, since I like it, and it runs on Linux too. Soon I will be able to make a permanent leap over there I hope... I tried setting up Ubuntu Studio last winter already, but it''s not really possible without an internet connection, which I don't sadly have. Maybe I'll try Jacklab next...
I also recently bought an GP2X, and I'm totally hooked. With Little Piggy Tracker I can now make music where ever I go! Which is good, since right now I don't have an apartment, so I don't have a place to put my computer in either :/ But it's way cool making beats in the forest and on trains :)
Aarnimaa, Elektro Fluoro Punx & Goddess Guerrilla were made in Psycle and and AthlonXP1800+.
Both Summamutikka albums were made in Dreamstation. (it's freeware these days! and very lightweight, perfect for composing on a cheap laptop when travelling! On my current computer the old trax take around 2% of my CPU time... To think that they used to max out my old 600mhz pentium!)
I made some occasional older tracks with Impulse Tracker, Fast Tracker 2, Z-Tracker and Buzz too.
I had some synths before, but I sold them away, I like the ability to have the whole studio inside my computer...
